Ulster University’s Research and Impact Team experience our flagship Give A Hand programme.
Research and Innovation
As one of Europe’s leading universities Ulster University is constantly striving for ways to challenge and inspire its team. For this reason Lightbulb Teams was delighted to be invited by Tim Brundle, the director of Research and Impact, to meet with the university’s Innovation and Research team to deliver its flagship Give A Hand programme.
This is an audience that are constantly focusing on reimagining what’s possible – on taking a blank page and using it to build solutions that have a positive impact on societies, economies, and cultures – and with work that spans the fields of medicine, technology and even geopolitics. They are world leaders in thinking outside the box so the Lightbulb Teams were honoured to be asked to deliver a CSR team-building exercise.
In the Give A Hand programme, individuals work together to build a life-changing prosthetic hand that is then, donated for free to someone in the developing world. As a population of professional innovators, the Ulster University participants embraced the challenge and were highly focused on achieving results that make a difference.
The prosthetic hands built during the session on the York Street campus will go directly to 10 patients in India, allowing these individuals to regain the independence that we all take for granted. The will now be able to feed themselves, dress themselves, wash themselves, go to college or earn a living – something that was almost impossible previously.
Thank-UU
From Lightbulb…
Speaking after the event Lightbulb Teams’ founder, David Meade said:
“I felt so lucky to be invited back to my alma mater, where I got my own first degree and to be able to go there with the Give A Hand programme was a particularly special moment in my career.
“This is a team that are constantly focused on impact. They don’t want team building just for team building’s sake. They truly do want to make a difference in the world and that’s why this exercise was such a powerful fit for them. It was so inspiring to see their commitment to the task.
“I want to say a huge thanks to Tim Brundle and to everyone present at the event for working together to make a difference in the world. I’m now just so excited to get these hands to the recipients.”
