Lightbulb Teams’ founder David Meade has enjoyed a long and fruitful working relationship with CarTrawler for some time now. And for their next off-site event, he wanted to do something special to bring the team together and unite them in their goals.
Toy For Life
As an organisation Lightbulb Teams are constantly trying to push boundaries to find new ways to make a difference in the world. It was while delivering prosthetic hands and water filters (made as part of the Give A Hand and Water Works programmes) to those in need across the world, that we noticed children in the developing world were taking waste materials, like broken bottles and damaged tin cans, and turning them into toys. While it was an amazing measure of their creativity it’s not particularly safe so the team set about designing a range of toys.
Therefore, Toy For Life was born – a way to provides organisations the opportunity to build a true lifelong keepsake that will be donated, in their name, to someone in the developing world.
After 18 months of research and development. we were almost ready to launch Toy For Life to a client. So when conversations started with CarTrawler, we knew they’d be the perfect company to initiate it.
CarTrawler’s Team Build
As the leading B2B technology provider of car rental and mobility solutions to the global travel industry, CarTrawler partners with the world’s leading brands in travel, enabling them to offer car rental, airport transfer and ride-hailing services to their customers.
When a date for CarTrawler’s team-build was in the diary, the determination from Lightbulb Teams to coordinate the programme in a short period of time was activated. Within six weeks an instructional app had been designed, packaging had been secured and all of the logistics and supply chain to get the toys into the hands of the end recipients were finalised.
The CSR session was an overwhelming success. When the team at CarTrawler realised what they would be doing they all instantly turned on the client-centricity that they are known for in their sector and used that same focus towards building toys for someone in the developing world that they’ve never even met.
It was undoubtedly a challenge as the toys are difficult to build, but by the end the participants have built a beautiful gift that will be handed down for generations and generation.
A note from Lightbulb…
Shortly after the event the team at Lightbulb had the opportunity to travel to Uganda to distribute the toys that CarTrawler had built. We are so grateful for CarTrawler’s leap of faith to explore our latest Toy For Life team-building programme.
Founder David Meade explained: “This was a really magical moment for everyone at Lightbulb Teams. It was a proud opportunity to do something brand new with a client that they had worked with for many years and we are so grateful that the team at Car Trawler trusted us and were happy to be part of the journey.
“Every single one of their colleagues embraced the difficult challenge of building and decorating the toys and in doing so they brought smiles to countless children in Africa who, up until this point, have never had a toy of their own before.”
He added: “Their commitment and generosity is a testament to who they are as a business and who they are as people.
“I feel incredibly privileged that my team and I were able to go out there and distribute these toys. We found it particularly rewarding to then be able to bring the photographs back to CarTrawler so they could actually see who the end recipients were.
“If you’d like to be involved in the Toy For Life programme to build these beautiful toys with your teams or colleagues, then please get in touch with Lightbulb Teams.”
