Giving a Hand at NECA’s MEP Innovation Conference

Lightbulb Teams has enjoyed a long, fruitful and strategic relationship with NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association). Based out of Washington DC, they are the world’s largest association of electrical contractors. As an organisation they work hard to make sure that the industry is constantly professionalising, constantly building its safety and constantly innovating for what the future might bring in the world of electrical provision and all of its allied fields.

MEP Innovation Conference

For almost a decade now David and Lightbulb Teams have worked with NECA on countless international events, ranging from 500 delegates to 15,000 delegates. So, it was particularly special for us to be invited to join NECA in Orlando for their MEP Innovation Conference. This event in particular is about stretching expectations, for not just the industry, but for the world’s approach to electricity, its use and its safety.

NECA wanted to show delegates that the industry can truly be a force for good even in times of uncertainty, so they decided to use the Give A Hand programme as a vehicle to inspire that sense of legacy and contribution.

The Give A Hand programme is an amazing opportunity for delegates and participants to come together to build a life changing prosthetic that will transform the life of someone in the world that they haven’t even met yet. These prosthetic hands give back the independence, freedom and dignity that we all take for granted.

Many of the patients who receive hands have lost them as a result of either electrocution, violent crime, or congenital issues and the team at Lightbulb were so proud to partner with NECA to provide these hands to patients who, under other circumstances, would never have have access to them.

These hands are are a world-class device that allow individuals to feed, clothe and wash themselves, and enables them to go back to work, go back to education and just live a normal life.

As an exercise, it is incredibly challenging – this is not a toy or training device, they are real clinical prosthetic hands – but by working together to overcome any challenges, they can build a long lasting legacy for someone in need.

Thank-you NECA

Lightbulb founder David Meade commented:

  • “NECA is an organisation that is constantly looking to the future and not just of its own business but as to the positive impact it can make in the world.

“We were so delighted that they chose to support us again on the Give A Hand programme and in doing so they were able to change the lives of 80 patients.

“So powerful was the impact of the event that NECA have sought to run the programme again at another event later in the year, thereby pledging their commitment to the Give A Hand programme and these individuals in need.

“Myself and the team at Lightbulb want to thank everyone at NECA for all their hard work in organising the event and also for their commitment in joining us on this journey. We are truly grateful.”
