Dublin Convention Bureau use the Water Works team-building activity as an icebreaker at their ‘Meet Dublin in London’ event.

Meet Dublin In London

Dublin Convention Bureau, is dedicated to offering free, impartial advice and support to planners, associations & organisers.

Last month, the team brought some Irish charm to London with their Meet Dublin in London event (#MDIL), hosted at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Camden.

The event brought Irish suppliers together with UK event planners and buyers, creating an opportunity to showcase what Dublin has to offer while, importantly, encouraging genuine conversations and connections across the water.

And there was certainly plenty of personality in the room! Despite air traffic diversions making the journey to the venue a little more complex, delegates and organisers arrived ready to meet, connect and get involved.

To help break the ice, Dublin Convention Bureau teamed up with Lightbulb Teams to bring our Water Works to the event.

Water Works Team Building

Water Works is a hands-on CSR team-building activity where teams work together to build water filters that are donated to vulnerable communities in Uganda.

For #MDIL, Water Works was used as an icebreaker activity to generate conversations as teams worked together to build water filter systems. In their groups, delegates selected a team leader, while the remaining participants put on blindfolds and relied on their team leader to verbally talk them through the water filter instructions.

It might sound simple, but communicating clearly without being able to see what you’re doing quickly puts teamwork, trust and collaboration to the test.

The activity also provided a visual representation of what it could be like to experience sight loss as a result of washing in contaminated water, giving delegates an opportunity to reflect on the importance of access to clean and safe water.

A huge thank you to Áine Corrigan and the Dublin Convention Bureau team for trusting us to be part of #MDIL, alongside your events agency, Verve.

We had a brilliant time and loved seeing delegates get stuck into Water Works.

Water Works Impact

Chronic shortages of clean and safe water continue to threaten the lives of many people across the globe. When adults and children drink and bathe in contaminated water, they expose themselves to illness, parasites and, in some cases, life-threatening diseases.

Access to clean water can help prevent many of these issues, and thanks to everyone who took part at Guinness Open Gate Brewery, the filters built at #MDIL will make a real difference to communities in Uganda.

Each filter can provide clean water for up to 300 people for two years.
