Transform Traditional Team Building into Meaningful Engagement

Published:

At Lightbulb Teams, our mission is to create meaningful change in the world by delivering impactful team-building experiences.

We specialise in creating innovative, fun and impactful team-building activities with a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative behind them. This allows organisations to strengthen their team whilst also positively impacting developing countries. Ultimately, our mission is simple: to help businesses engage in meaningful, impactful team-building activities while giving back to society through wider CSR initiatives.

Our approach is unique because we strategically combine team-building activities with CSR, allowing your team to work and grow together while supporting wider societal causes that align with their personal values.

So, how does our CSR team-building work?

Each of our corporate team-building activities begins with a compelling keynote. Our team can co-author this with you to ensure the talk is closely aligned with the goals of your organisation and the wider team. This allows us to explain the initiative behind Lightbulb Teams and inform your team of the impact they will have on society. We currently offer a variety of programmes, each with an individual initiative to help developing societies around the world:

  • Firstly, the ‘Give a Hand’ programme tasks your team to construct a prosthetic hand from scratch. This will later be delivered and fitted to a recipient in a third-world country – either a child or an adult – who has lost a limb.
  • Secondly, the ‘Water Works’ programme invites your team to construct two life-saving water filtration systems that will be donated to those in desperate need of safe water on the other side of the world.
  • Thirdly, the ‘Toy for Life’ programme requires your team to build a wooden toy that will be gifted to a child who is in the care of one of our charity partners, allowing them to safely discover the power of play.

The problem with traditional corporate team-building methods

Traditional team-building activities such as icebreakers and unexciting games are no longer enjoyed or sought after by organisations for many reasons. Firstly, the overall aim of team-building is to drive engagement and positivity within your team – traditional team-building does not achieve this. Instead, these traditional methods and activities are viewed as a chore or a task to complete by team members, rather than something to genuinely get excited about and get involved in. Similarly, these activities do not have a direct correlation to the real world and the working environment of your team and therefore do not impact collaboration, teamwork or creativity, for example.

At Lightbulb Teams, we strive to change the outlook on team-building. We have broken this traditional, mundane mould of team-building activities by choosing to focus on real-world situations that will truly challenge and engage your team in a more meaningful way. Instead of these typical icebreakers, our programmes are strategically designed to be hands-on and purpose-driven, ensuring your team members feel excited to take part and get involved. This approach has proven extremely successful, and many of our participants leave feeling inspired and connected with the conviction that their involvement has made a tangible, positive change. This blend of team collaboration with real impact ensures that your team-building and CSR initiatives are not viewed as a chore, but rather something meaningful.

Why does meaningful engagement matter?

Ensuring genuine, meaningful engagement from the wider team is essential to your team-building strategy as participants play a key role in building genuine connections and relationships within your team. There are many benefits of team-building programmes, such as improved team collaboration, creativity, productivity and positively impacting relationships across the workforce. However, you cannot enjoy these benefits without the engagement of your team. Meaningful engagement is crucial to ensure your team is actively involved and emotionally invested in the programme they are participating in, allowing them to create shared experiences, break down silos, and engage in collaborative problem-solving more enjoyably.

Measuring the impact of your team-building activities and meaningful engagement

Investing in engaging team-building activities can be extremely beneficial for your business, but it is also important to understand the benefits of these. With this genuine engagement, you can expect to see positive results translating back into the workplace as your employees will better communicate with one another, along with an understanding of problem-solving and collaboration. Oftentimes, organisations also see an improvement in employee productivity as a result of this. These improvements are particularly seen within Lightbulb Teams as team members feel that their values align with those of their employer with CSR-related initiatives at the core.
