Lwanga Nyabubare Primary School, is a small, church-founded and community-supported school in Kasese, that carries the hopes of 145 children. The school serves learners from early childhood through to Primary Five, supported by just five dedicated teachers. Despite their commitment, the learning environment remains extremely constrained.

A single mud-and-wattle structure is divided into three classrooms, while other lessons take place under trees—making learning nearly impossible during rainy days. The youngest learners share the church building, often requiring teachers to take turns. Children learn in difficult conditions, many seated on polythene bags, while those with benches must kneel to use them as desks, a challenge that particularly affects slower writers.

Many walk long distances to school barefoot and spend long hours learning without access to meals. Beyond infrastructure, the children face even greater challenges. Many walk long distances barefoot, arriving at school as early as 8a.m., and stay until 1p.m. without a meal. Yet, in the midst of these hardships, what stands out most is their joy, resilience, and an undeniable eagerness to learn.

Joseph: A Brother Before a Pupil

During lessons, his brother often becomes restless, sometimes crying from hunger, other times simply needing attention and stimulation. With nothing to engage him, Joseph is frequently forced to step out of class to calm him down. In those moments, learning pauses, not because Joseph lacks interest or ability, but because circumstance demands that he first be a caregiver. Joseph’s story is not just about one child; it reflects the hidden barriers many children face in accessing education.

Arjo building and providing toys for this school will do more than bring joy. It will create moments of calm, engagement, and stimulation for young children like Joseph’s brother, allowing Joseph to stay in class and learn. For many others, it will introduce the kind of play that supports early development, builds social skills, and makes schools a place children want to be.

The need here is clear, and the impact will be immediate.

Toys will also be distributed in the Karambi Faith Orphanage Nursery and Primary School located in Karambi village, Buhuna Parish, established by Baluku Nelson. Its mission is to assist orphans and underprivileged children in the community affected by the post-Allied Democratic Forces rebel conflict.

The school caters to over 300 children. There are 35 children in the top class. The baby class consists of 55 children.

To enhance the children’s play and rehabilitation some of the toys built will be donated to this school.
