Butcombe Group's Toy for Life Team Build in Weston-super-Mare, 2025

Two Team-Builds with Butcombe Group

Lightbulb Teams brings two team-building programmes to Butcombe Brewery Group’s event: Toy for Life and Breaking News.

Butcombe Beat 2025

Butcombe Group is an award-winning company made up of over 120 pubs, bars and inns stretching across Southern England and the Channel Islands.

People are at the heart of everything they do, and this year alone the Butcombe Group were recognised for their approach to mental health and wellbeing by The Burnt Chef Project, highlighting their continued investment in people.

Building on this people-first approach, Lightbulb Teams were invited to join their Butcombe Beat, where 170 attendees gathered to reflect and strategise for the year ahead. Our task was to complete the theme of high performance by encouraging delegates to plan for the future, bring a ‘give back’ element to the agenda, and ultimately add a touch of fun to the room.

Toy for Life

The event took place at the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, the hometown of comedy legend John Cleese, which instantly set the tone for a fun and unforgettable event surrounded by amusements!

After delegates enjoyed seaside fish and chips, our CSR programme, Toy for Life, took centre stage in the afternoon. Our facilitator, Aaron, led the session with humour and charisma, getting delegates learning and laughing before embarking on the challenge.

The room was jam-packed, and every table embraced our task of building a wooden toy for an underprivileged child in Uganda. This sentimental CSR programme resonated strongly with many in the room, particularly as around 20% of the audience had personal connections to Africa.

We were delighted that Butcombe Beat fully embraced the challenge, assembling an impressive 41 toys.

Breaking News

After the emotive team-build, we quickly moved on to our second challenge of the day: Breaking News. This time, tables were mixed, allowing attendees to mingle and get creative as they worked together to produce a news report.

The aim of this activity was to encourage employees to think about the company’s future, their role in it, and what they could achieve in 12 months’ time.

The results were like nothing we’d seen before. We can honestly say that Butcombe Beat delivered some of the best creative Breaking News reports. From opening a Butcombe bar in the White House to shouting about their infamous Sunday roasts across England, this group truly aimed for the sky when projecting what they could bring to the table for the months ahead.

This programme will also include a donation of a digital media kit to a school chosen by Butcombe, helping local children explore digital media
