The power of the Give a Hand programme and the impact it has on your team

At Lightbulb Teams, we are passionate about creating meaningful change in the world around us through delivering impactful team building experiences focused on corporate social responsibility and charitable initiatives.

We offer a diverse range of CSR programmes, each specifically designed to change the lives of those in developing countries whilst inspiring your team.

Through comprehensive evidence-based research, case studies and practical tools, we will equip your team with everything they need to overcome challenges and help make a sustainable change in the world. Our CSR programmes include:

Our flagship Give a Hand programme is specifically aimed to help those in developing countries who have lost a limb. With your help to build a prosthetic hand, we aim to give these people their independence back – allowing them to experience the ‘everyday’ movements we take for granted in life.

What does the Give a Hand programme involve?
The Give a Hand programme is a challenging, but enriching team-building exercise that will inspire your team through problem solving and collaboration.

Each Give a Hand session begins with a compelling keynote talk that our team at Lightbulb Teams will co-author with you. This talk is designed around your organisation’s goals, whilst explaining the purpose of the Give a Hand programme and the benefits of taking part. By providing your team with the context of Lightbulb Teams’ mission and the need for CSR initiatives, participants will feel a greater sense of motivation and determination to give their best throughout the activity.

Following the keynote talk, groups of participants will be tasked to construct a prosthetic hand from scratch – we typically recommend groups of four per build.  We’ll provide groups with a self-build kit including instructions, a customisable case and the prosthetic hand itself to assemble. Delegates will then work together to build the hand in a collaborative environment, with the outcome of a prosthetic hand being donated to a developing country.

This CSR-related team building activity is suitable for events of all sizes, however, we recommend that your team is divided into smaller groups of four to ensure each participant has a bigger role to play in the building process. In addition to this, you have the freedom to select groups to ensure participants can work with a team that allows them to meet new faces and socialise with those they might not otherwise form a relationship with in the workplace.

How does the Give a Hand programme make an impact?
In 2017, 57.7 million people were living with limb amputation due to traumatic causes worldwide, with the highest number of amputations in East Asia, South Asia and North Africa (National Library of Medicine).

With programmes like Give a Hand, individuals can give back independence to others so that they can have the freedom to write, feed themselves and transform their overall ability to live their day-to-day lives.

What impact will this have on your team?
The Give a Hand programme will touch the hearts of your team and is sure to live on in their minds for years to come. This programme has been delivered hundreds of times to groups ranging from 15 to 2,000 participants, and the impact speaks for itself every time.  By providing your team with the ability to build a hand to change someone’s life, you are providing them with the tools to feel a true sense of fulfilment.

In addition to this mission itself, the act of participating in team building activities has many benefits for your team. Firstly, by working in collaboration with one another throughout the session, your team will have a greater understanding of each other’s interests, strengths and weaknesses. These sessions are NOT designed to promote intense competition, but to encourage a true sense of collaboration. And show how each member of the team has a part to play in a bigger picture.

By challenging your team to work in collaboration towards a shared goal of creating prosthetic hands for those in need, you will encourage a sense of achievement to increase overall motivation and productivity. Again, we aim to show that when teams work closely together to solve a problem, they find a solution much quicker than they would when working alone.

Start your CSR journey today with Lightbulb Teams
For several years, the Give a Hand programme hosted by Lightbulb Teams has proven to be a transformative, inspiring experience for those who take part. By providing prosthetic hands to those who have lost a limb in developing countries, our initiative strives not only to change lives, but also to empower your team to make a real difference. The gift of a prosthetic limb will restore independence and dignity for those who need it most, and enable them to regain control of their daily activities and improve their overall quality of life.

The impact on those who participate in the Give a Hand programme is also profound, as our CSR-related team building activities provide your team with a deep sense of purpose, allowing them to connect with team members outside of the workplace. We go above and beyond traditional team-building exercises to encourage meaningful change, allowing participants to leave with a true sense of achievement as they have made a life-changing difference to those in developing communities.
