How to make a prosthetic hand

Published:

At Lightbulb Teams, we offer a range of charity team-building activities that operate with a ‘give back’ angle.

Our team-building activities are embraced by global companies of all sizes, to foster teamwork, promote social responsibility, and create meaningful experiences. By participating in these events, teams not only strengthen collaboration and communication skills but also contribute to important causes, making a positive impact on communities around the world.

Our flagship charity team-building activity, Give a Hand is a challenging and highly rewarding team building experience that encourages participants to work together to construct a prosthetic hand. Once complete, we then donate each prosthetic hand to recipients on behalf of our clients.

This initiative not only strengthens team collaboration and problem-solving but also harnesses a lasting, life-changing impact for those receiving the prosthetics.

When it comes to building the prosthetic hand, our step-by-step approach is as follows:

  1. Check your supplies.
  2. Ensure that all necessary parts and tools are available before starting. This includes the hand components, individual screws, and any additional materials provided by our team. We always attend Give A Hand events with plenty of spare parts should they be required.

  3. Build the hand.
  4. To successfully build the prosthetic app, delegates are encouraged to follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the manual on the day. If you’re working in a group, use the manual to guide you on which pieces or screws to use at each stage. Don’t hesitate to ask for help—Lightbulb Teams typically offer a help desk or have assistants on the floor to assist you if you get stuck or need clarification.

  5. Decorate the case.
  6. Get creative! Each prosthetic hand comes with its own travel case to ensure it ships to the end-user safely. The case will be blank and we encourage delegates to use the pens provided to personalise it, by writing or drawing a message of hope. This adds a special touch, making the hand even more meaningful for its future recipient.

  7. Complete the dedication card.
  8. Take a moment to fill out the dedication card. Include your name, your team’s name, or your company’s name, and write a few heartfelt words of encouragement for the person who will receive the hand. This personal connection can make a big impact.

  9. Share your experience!
  10. Don’t forget to document the day! Capture photos or videos of your team building the hand, decorating the case, or just having fun. Share your experience on social media and tag Lightbulb Teams, or email us your group pictures and thoughts about the event. We’d love to hear from you and see how you contributed.

  11. Prosthetic hand distribution.
  12. Once your hand is complete, Lightbulb Teams takes over. We partner with charities to distribute the prosthetic hands to individuals in need across the globe. Your efforts, along with others, make a real difference, and we ensure the hands reach those who need them most on behalf of your group or company.
